What southern lakes are good bass fishing spots?

I’m going to be in Georgia this summer and have been told that Bass fishing is better in the southern states. Can you give me the names of a few lakes that I can try out?

Many of the best lakes for Bass that I’ve found in Georgia were built by the Corps of Engineers.  Depending on what area of Georgia you’re going to be visiting, I’d suggest you try to hit at least one of these:  Clarks Hill Lake is 57 years old and covers 72,000 acres.  It’s located east of the Mississippi River on the border of Georgia and South Carolina.  Also known as the J. Strom Thurmond Lake, it is the largest project undertaken by the Corps east of the Mississippi River.  Bass fishing is usually at it’s peak when the blueback herring are spawning in the spring but you’ll be able to catch them here all year-round.   Hartwell Lake, in the upper Piedmont extends into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  It is a 56,000 acre lake also built by the Corps of Engineers.  Again, the bass fishing is the best when the blueback are spawning in April and May but you can use topwater baits here all summer.  Lake Oconee is another excellent choice for Bass fishing in Georgia and was created when Georgia Power finished the dam in 1979.  This lake covers 19,000 acres and boasts over 300 miles of shoreline.  Both the Oconee and Appalachee Rivers feed into this lake.  The water never fluctuates more than 18 inches and the best places to fish for Bass are on the boat docks and the points.
