Well you certainly have many options; there are many excellent Largemouth Bass fisheries in the United States. For my money the best is Lake Okeechobee in south central Florida. Lake Okeechobee is a very large lake; in fact it is the second largest lake that is totally within the boundaries of the United States. It is the most popular Largemouth Bass fishery for good reason. Over the year Lake Okeechobee has produced more trophy Largemouth bass than any other lake. Lake Okeechobee is a unique lake. The average water depth is listed at only 9 feet. Much of the water that produces the most and largest bass is in the 3-6 foot depth range. The water is somewhat murky with lots of weeds. If your number one goal is simply to catch huge Largemouth Bass then live bait fishing is the way to go. The preferred bait of choice on Lake Okeechobee is a live wild shiner. When fishing for large bass the bigger the better as far as bait is concerned. Wild shiners as large as a foot long are not too large. Largemouth Bas in the ten to twelve pound class can and will inhale huge bait. When using artificial bait you need to concentrate on lures that run either on top of the water or just below the surface. Spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and cigar shaped top water lures often are the ticket for a busy day of reeling in fish. For my money the spinnerbait is the most effective lure you can carry for this lake. I advise keeping a variety of colors in your box when you fish this lake.
