How To Kick Some Bass……

What is a good bait to use right now (March 4, 2010) for spawning white bass in Harmon Creek or White Rock Creek- both are tributaries of Lake Livingston, Texas

Of course, live minnows and shad always work on White Bass, but they are difficult to keep alive at times. Here are some of the best baits I know for White (Sand) Bass: Topwater: Crazy Shad, Devils Horse, Pop R in shad colors, Tiny Torpedo (the best), Heddon Torpedo, Zara Spook (in shad colors), Creek Chub, Lucky 13, Lucky Craft Sammy, Rapala Skitterwalk, and X-Caliber Zell-Pop. Crankbaits: Shad Rap, Grave Digger, Rad Shad, Hellbender, Bagley Killer B, Flicker Shad, Bomber Model A, Grappler Shad, Fat Rap, and Storm Thin-Fin. Spoons/Slabs: Johnson Silver Minnow, Kastmaster, and Daredevel. Spinners: Mepps Aglia, Mepps Comet, Roostertails, Little Suzy (the best), Little George (next best), Blue Fox, and Panther Martins. Jigs:(my all-time choice) Marabou Jigs, Sassy Shad, Lil Fishies, Berkley Powerbait Hollow Bodies (dynamite!), Gulp Alive Minnows, Shadalicious, and Yum Money Minnows. I have personally used all of these at one time or another, and can testify under Oath, that they work at least some of the time. Here’s a trick you can try in any moving water. Rig a white marabou jig on the end of your line. About 18″ above that, rig a yellow marabou jig on a short dropper. About 18″ above that, rig a float big enough to hold both jigs up. Now, cast the whole thing upstream and let it drift. Watch the float carefully and any time it stops or goes under, set the hook. It’s not uncommon to catch two Sand Bass at a time with this rig. I modified it from a rig I used to use in Galveston for Speckled Trout. Happy Fishing.
