How to Choose the Right Bass Fishing Lure

Things to Take Into Consideration When Bass Fishing

As important as the right bass fishing lure is, you still need to make sure the rest of your equipment is suited for bass fishing. This is a strong species that will put up one heck of a fight so you should have a good strong fishing rod and reel that will handle the weight and struggle of the bass. All of your gear should be checked regularly to ensure it’s in good condition.

When choosing your bass fishing lures the color is one of the main things that you need to consider. Bright colors work great for bass because they get their attention better than blue or green because these blend in with the surroundings to easily. When fishing in heavy weeds, it’s a good idea to use a weedless lure or a metal spoon for the best results.

Before heading out to the water consider how the weather and the time of day affect the bass. They are more aggressive at certain times than they are at others. For example, the bass are less active when the water is colder than fifty degrees and when it’s above eighty degrees. However, the temperature between these two is when the bass will be hungry and searching for food.

When fishing in the summer, it’s recommended that you go out early in the morning and late evening. If you do go out fishing in the middle of the day, then search for the bass in shady areas because they will avoid the direct sunlight. It’s also a good idea to make sure that you use something that resembles the natural bait in the area for the best results. This will be more productive because the bass tend to shy away from things that look strange.

Once you learn the area and spend some time fishing in certain lakes and rivers, you’ll learn more about which lures will work the best and when. Anytime you’re fishing in a new area, you’ll most likely need to experiment until you find what works the best. For this reason, it’s recommended that you take along a variety of lures. You can also start out with lures that match the baitfish in the area and this should prove to be very productive.
