Freshwater Bass Fishing Secrets

Choose your Species

Deciding which bass species that you want to seek out will help increase the amount of success you have. There are many different types of bass such as the black bass, striped bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, largemouth bass and white bass. Each one of these has their own unique qualities and there are special lures and baits that can be used to get the attention of each one. For instance, bait that would entice the largemouth bass to strike may not have much effect on the spotted bass.

When you choose the bass species that you want to seek out in advance you will know which baits will work the best and where to start fishing, which in turn will increase your odds of getting more bites. Now, this is not to say that you can’t seek out different types of bass. It simply means that you should decide which one you’re going after before you head out to the water so you’ll know which type of gear and bait to take along for the best results.

Know the Species

The more you know about the type of freshwater bass you’re seeking out, the easier it will be to catch them. You need to know where they live, what they eat and their habits. This information will tell you where to start looking for the bass so you don’t have to wonder around wasting half of your fishing time trying to find them. When you know what they like to eat, you can choose your baits more wisely and knowing their habits makes fishing more interesting.

For example, the largemouth bass can be found hanging out around structures, rocks, under foliage and they can often be found near the edge of the water. The best time to seek them out is in the fall but they can be fished anytime. They are highly attracted to worms so, it’s recommended that you take along a variety of colors so you can switch off when fishing in different water conditions.

As you can see, the more you know about the species of bass you’re fishing, the more successful you can be. It’s also recommended that you learn as much as you can about the area in which you’re fishing for an even higher success rate.
